Once you get a 25 or so level, then you should be good to naturally level up.
Unfortunately you only gain experience from successes (but disarming traps with a probe will also increase security), but there are tons of trainers who you pay to level up your skills (typically at thieves guild), and at level 5 it's really cheap. If it says 'this lock is too advanced for you' you'll never be able to pick it at your current level with the quality of pick you have (as there are different qualities of picks that essentially give you a higher skill for picking locks) Cheers for the great response mate <3ĭo you level get exp in security from failing like in skyrim, or do you have to level up some other way?
If a lock says 'lockpicking failed', it means you simply failed but you can conceivably pass. You can do that level 1 lock, but it'll take a lot of tries. You can even pick locks of higher levels, but a 5 is the lowest security you can start with and basically means you can't pick anything.
